Competitors and spectators alike were treated to a wicked weekend of racing at Ireland’s largest whitewater kayaking event, Crana Fest 2014, in Donegal, Northern Ireland. The dam on the Crana River releases its water only once a year, resulting in a massive turnout of Irish paddlers from all around the country!
The different categories and levels makes this event action packed for everybody! With sea kayak-, slalom-, whitewater-, downriver-, and raft races, as well as freestyle and a surf comp, clinics, parties and the Throwbag Olympics on the schedule there is something to do for everyone!
New this year was the Moonlight Charge on Saturday night, a short course sprint event on the upper section of the river, over the main falls. Running the event under lights, added an extra touch to the event and a great end to the day!
I’m super stoked I had the chance to fly over to Ireland with the support from Palm Equipment and Progressive Distribution! I loved the weekend, people and atmosphere of the event! Thanks to all the Irish paddlers!
With her father running a kayak school and an older brother and sister already hooked on paddling, Martina had pretty much no choice than to become a kayaker. She grew up in the small seaside village of Schoorl, just to the north of Amsterdam, spending her teenage summers working as a kayak instructor for her father or following the European freestyle circuit.
