Some things never change: Kim showing us how to warm up.
The February team training weekend, our second of the year, saw five of us (including birthday girl Fran) heading for North Wales and into Llangollen for a weekend under the watchful eye of coach Deb and new raft team member little Alfie Bo! The first session of the day had us working on power matching across our pairings in the raft. Following a course of 90º and 180º turns we worked together to match evenly and to control the raft smoothly.
After a lunch break and a catch up it was back to the River Dee to warm up for a run from Horseshoe Falls to Town Falls.
There is always an argument about who is going to go back up the hill with the pump!
Once on the river we made our way to Serpent's Tail where we worked the features making high and low crosses in the fast flow. We continued down the river eddying out practising slalom moves and using the waves and features to our advantage, finishing with the biggest rapid of the day under the bridge in the centre of town.
An early start on day two back in frosty Llangollen
Our first run of the day was from horseshoe falls to JJ’s car park a hard slog due to a technical hitch and a soggy floor in the raft. A quick run around and we where back in action with a borrowed raft to keep us moving.Th technical hitch may or may not have been caused by sliding the raft down the big hill...oops. Lesson learned.
Back to the top for round two and this time it started with sprint runs of the white water sections down to JJ’s where we practised boofing the drops and waves.
Fran and Suzie, scouting the next line, or doing some shameless promotion! You decide!
Next stop is Lee Valley for GB selections. We are so excited to be going to race and on some awesome whitewater too! A big thanks to Luke Dorbin for the photos and being our 6th member of the team on this weekend. Poor Georgie was ill but he stood up to the task admirably!
